    Hello!
Welcome to the Makuch bulletin board!
I am so happy that Michael Makuch has sponsored this for all of us family to get involved with. I am in Florida happily being greeted by sun everyday, however there were a few cold spells here where I did have to put on a light sweater!
I look forward to seeing you all at our reunion. I had such a great time talking with everyone for information in the past 2 years, for our family history book. It was great talking with (2nd) cousins whom I never met, but who are coming to Cleveland just for this reunion to meet all their other cousins.

  • 2009/02/24 10:06:11 Michael Makuch I'll be there!
I am looking forward to meeting a bunch of Makuch's I've never met before. I hadn't thought about the fact that my grandfather Mike was one of ten siblings until seeing it in print in Denise's book. Wow there's a lot of cousins out there.

I know my sister Michelle plans to bring her family as well.

  • 2009/02/24 10:07:03 Karen Makuh Johnson <kayjay0903@yahoo.com> Greetings
Greetings from Brooklyn, Ohio. Of course, I will be at the reunion. Can't wait to see all the family that I haven't seen in ages, AND all the family that I haven't met. Lots of memories to share.

Thank you: Michael for this wonderful web site.

  • 2009/02/24 20:05:24 Michelle Makuch Dent <michelledent@makuch.org> Would Not Miss This!
I will definitely be attending the Makuch Family Reunion. My husband and I will be flying up from Austin with our 4 & 5 year old daughters. I really look forward to catching up with those we haven't seen in so long, and meeting so many members of the Makuch (Makuh) family!

A HUGE thank you to Denise for all of her hard work on the book and the reunion, and my brother Michael for this website. See you Aug 1.

  • 2009/05/05 14:05:45 Denise G Dalton <dandalt55@aol.com> Reunion Update
One of the updates is that Ginny Christian is donating the Anniversary
cake because she will be actually making it herself. Karen/Jim Johnson
will be letting Ginny do this since Ginny is a 'Grandaughter' to John
and Barbara and Ginny does make cakes part-time and I hear they have
been beautiful. My sister karen will contemplate and donate something
else to the reunion pic nic.

Hope all is well, the organizing is coming together. Me and Cindi
have done a lot of work so far, as the registrations have come in.
So far, you might add this to the reunion sight: "37 Makuch
relatives are registered for this reunion, and I am expecting another
20-30 more to register in the next two weeks. " It is going to be
really fun and lots of surprises for all! Denise

  • 2009/05/13 09:08:16 Denise G Dalton Update
Mike, there are 45 people actually registered for our reunion as of today!! 14 more registrations are coming, including yours. I am expecting another 6 in the mail soon, also. This is beyond what my expectations were. I am so happy that we are doing this! Denise

  • 2009/06/02 07:21:58 Denise G Dalton Update
Hi Mike, we have 74 Makuch relatives officially registered. With another 22 confirming shortly.
For August 3 extra activity:Monday: Dinner at Sokolowkis University inn in Tremont is CANCELLED. We will let everyone know at the pic nic/or on your reunion websight where we will be having dinner instead of that evening. We still can go to Sokolowski's premises to take pictures of Cleveland skyline, and are hoping to find another restaurant in the Tremont area/ethnic etc. to go to.
    Denise

  • 2009/07/09 06:09:29 Ginny Christian <jchristian4035@yahoo.com> Looking forward to the Reunion
    Hi All,

Just a quick note to say I am SO EXCITED about the reunion. Many thanks to Denise and Cindy (whom I already have the pleasure of knowing) for devoting so much time and energy in making this event possible.
I am bringing along just a few of my family members, too! My daughter Kim (41), Her husband, Ken (43) will not be able to join us until Sunday, their twin daughters Emily and Elizabeth (8), Lindsey (22), Lindsey's husband, Derek (24) and their children (my Great-Grandchildren - I am OLD) Madison (5) and Logan (2). Also joining us will be my daugher, Michele (39), her husband Brian (43), their boys David (19) and Bernie (18). The clan finishes up with my son Steve (33), his wife Michelle (31), and their children Tyler (12), Zachery (6) and Mackenzie (2). Steve's daughter Cassidy (6) lives with her Mom in North Carolina and will not be with us that week-end. So you can see, we have quite a clan.
It is going to be SO NICE to meet everyone on a HAPPY occasion. It seems th only time we are together is when we see each other at funerals. I am just so excited about this reunion.
Michael and Michelle: I used to hear about the two of you when you were little, after Aunt Barb would visit you in Texas. I feel like I know you just a little bit, but I am so looking forward to meeting you in person. My sister, Pat and I used to have such fun times at your Grandparent's home! Jerry, Pat and I would play on the telephone in the kitchen, while the adults were in the living room! We'd call people and ask them "Is your refrigeraters were running" - of couse, they would say "YES" - and we would always say "You better go catch it before it runs away"! We have such WONDERFUL memories of the fun we used to have at their home. It will be nice to share many more memories. I don't know who all is attending... but I am hoping to see your cousins, Linda and Laurie. They were the Jr. Bridesmaid and Flower girl in my wedding (to my late husband of almost 41 years, Jim).
I believe some of the folks are coming up from Florida, too. I am really looking forward to seeing you all. Is Beverly and family...and Billy and his family coming, too? I know Joyce is going to be there... what about Jimmy and his family. You know, Denise... it might be nice if you would put a list of attendees on the message board. It would be nice for us to see who is going to be together.
Since I am now taking up the WHOLE message board, I will close until I see everyone on AUGUST 1. Lets cross our fingers for GOOD WEATHER..and ask God to get all of our "out of town" family here safe and sound.

    HI ALL,
JUST A COUPLE WEEKS LEFT BEFORE OUR BIG DAY. I'LL TRY AND GET BACK ON HERE TO LIST ALL THE FAMILIES COMING, THANKS FOR THE IDEA, GINNY!
BUT FOR RIGHT NOW, (I HAVE NO INTERNET SERVICE AT HOME AT THIS TIME, SO I HAVE TO GO TO LIBRARY).
THERE ARE 100 MAKUCH RELATIVES REGISTERED AND A FEW OTHERS ARE PLANNING TO COME LAST MINUTE. I'LL TRY AND GET BACK ON HERE AT THE END OF THE WEEK TO MAKE A LIST OF ALL THOSE FAMILIES WHO ARE REGISTERED. THAT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA FOR YOU TO KNOW WHO ARE PLANNING ON ATTENDING. CINDI AND I ATTENDED HOLY GHOST CHURCH A WEEK AGO FOR SERVICE, SO THAT WE COULD FINALIZE THOSE PLANS FOR OUR GROUP WHO WILL BE ATTENDING THAT. AFTER THAT SERVICE THERE WILL BE COFFEE/JUICE/PASTRY FOR THOSE WHO NEED A LITTLE SNACK BEFORE THE CEMETERY/LUNCHEON. THERE IS ALSO A BATHROOM ON THE MAIN FLOOR AND BASEMENT WHERE THE SOCIAL WILL TAKE PLACE (AT HOLY GHOST CHURCH AS WELL AS THE LUNCHEON). THE CEMETERY LUNCHEON AND BATHROOMS ARE ALL ON THE MAIN FLOOR. THERE WILL BE SANDWICHES, SIDE DISH: COFFEE/ICE TEA/LEMONADE AND PASTRY. ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, PLEASE CALL ME RATHER THAN E-MAIL, BECAUSE OF THE SHORT TIME LEFT. 216-661-7336. THANKS, DENISE

  • 2009/07/23 20:49:20 Lori Kall <lkall@roadrunner.com> One week from today!
Well, thanks to this reunion, I get some anxiously awaited visitors from Texas one week from now! I CAN'T WAIT! I get to meet my cousin Michelle's daughter's, Lane and Ridley, for the first time! It has been too long since I have seen her and her husband, Paul, also! Michael will be here, too, and even though I "just" saw him in January, I am happy to see him again and personally thank him for this site. It is awesome. I am also looking forward to seeing my "local" cousins as it has been far too long!!!!

Ginny, we'll have to talk. I used to do cakes as well. Notice I said "used to." I hate getting any where near my decorating tools these days! I am glad, as well, to be seeing everyone for a fun occasion!

    See y'all soon!

  • 2009/08/04 11:00:37 Denise (Makuh) Dalton <dendalt55@aol.com> Reunion follow-up
Well I certainly had Christmas on August 1 & 2 from each and every one of you who attended! What a WONDERFUL weekend! I Love you all. and how fast those pictures were put on our family websight!! YAHOOOO Carpatho-Rusyns!!!
    Cousin Denise

  • 2009/08/04 22:36:02 Linda Bukovec <lbukovec@cox.net> The Awesome Reunion I wished!! I had not missed. But Thanks
This, I am sad to say is the first time i have been on this sit, thanks to my cousin, Michael. I thought about the family all "reunion weekend" long. I am sure that many family members that wished they could be there, but couldn't for whatever reason, did the same. Seeing pictures, eading "the story" puts life into perspective, again!.

Being the oldest great-grandchild of Barbara and John. as I saw in the "Book", I realized, going through the history of the family, that I am lucky, because I was at the end of the grandchildren and the beginning of the great-grandchildren, so I do have memories of both.

I saw the pictures that Michael posted, and of course, missing family everyday, these only made me wish I had been there all the more. What a great thing to have done. I remember the days of when the family did get together so much more.

Whoever reads this, I remember a wedding, many years ago, it had to be a first cousin, i think, that the hall was in front of a cemetery. I think there was a lower hall and a upper hall, and us younger first cousins, and older second cousins wandered in the cemetery. Does anyone else have a memory anything remotely like this? Whose wedding was this. I do remember many times with you "second cousins" of mine and I miss you all.

Ginny: you mentioned the wedding. Do you know every year, at this time, because I know this is the Week of your Anniversary, I still think of that day and remember what a fun day that was. Thank You. I think the song on the radio at the time(please, correct me if i am wrong, was "They"re coming to take me away, HaHa) Was that on omen for all married couples i should have paid more attention to at the age of 10!

Anyway, I guess, I would just like to say, from someone who couldn't be there, but would have loved to, and miss the family, THANK YOU.

THANK YOU TO ALL THAT WENT INTO THIS REUNION. THANK YOU TO THOSE THAT WENT. THANK YOU TO THOSE THAT WILL KEEP THIS FAMILY GOING. I KNOW THAT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BARBAR AND JOHN AND EVERY CHIL THEY HAD.

I hope this site will be a good bridge to all the years that we weren't able to do this.

Thanks Denise. Thanks Cindy! I do remeber you and miss you. What i remember most is that every time we were together, there was alot of laughter!!

I hope we can all reconnect.

  • 2009/08/05 12:56:09 Dan Lawrence <danlaw777@roadrunner.com> reunion follow up

  • 2009/08/06 07:34:12 Denise (Makuh) Dalton <dendalt55@aol.com> Steamship: Mather
Cindi and I toured the Great Lakes Iron Ore Ship "Mather" on Monday. Went because it was the closest thing we could get to a Steamship that our grandparents came over to USA on. It was amazing to both of us. I went home and played my 45 (record) of Edmund Fitgerald by Gordon Lightfoot. Those guys/gals who work on those ships on the Great Lakes have to be unbelievable. Working on ships like that is HARD work, so hard and what they go through for their work day, even to eat and sleep on that boat, that each shift is only 4 hours. You really have to like boating/ships. When I looked down from the front deck, the water below is soooo far down!
I couldn't work like that, and I Like boats! Denise

  • 2009/08/07 19:43:52 Karen Makuh Johnson <kayjay0903@yahoo.com> Follow-up to Linda Stein Bukovec
Hey Linda: that wedding was cousin Pat Lawrence's. Denise and I talk about walking thru the cemetery all the time! That is so funny that you remember that, as we remember that too.I guess we weren't enjoying all the polkas!! I was a 17 year "old" second cousin to you. Haha. Also I was a bridesmaid in Ginny Christian's wedding (you were the Jr. bridesmaid.)My son lives a few streets away from your parents (Larchmont). Next time you are at your parents, let me know.

My last name is Makuch too!, We are from Philadelphia PA. I always thought the name was Russian? or Polish! I never knew there were so many others out there too! It kind of cool to know that. My great grandfathers name was Samuel John Makuch and is also from Phila, PA.
